JumpStart is an initiative founded by high school senior and Girl Scout Rishika Randev, currently being implemented at Community Empowerment Northern Virginia. Through this program, after-school students in grades 4 and 5 have a chance to sign up for 1 of 4 subject areas:
- computer programming
They then meet weekly for 1 hour and participate in targeted lessons, hands-on activities, and demonstrations intended to spur their interest in these fields. All activities are led by high school mentors who are willing to share their passion for a subject they will teach.
The purpose of this program is to provide the students with opportunities to expose themselves to new and fun applications of what they learn in school, strengthen their educational performance and motivation, and possibly lead them to a future career in one of these fields. Our biggest hope is that through encouragement and guidance, we can help young students explore their own interests, find new passions, and grow both academically and personally.
Please feel free to reach out to us at any time if you have questions or concerns! Contact information for each subject area lead instructor is also found below, if you have concerns about your child’s involvement in a specific group!
